Old Cologne Ad Transfer Onto Wood Door

I had a really old cabinet that I turned into a display shelf and I kept the door thinking I would find a use for it later. I transferred this image of an old cologne ad found at The Graphics Fairy onto it and as you can see, it really blurred. I put it aside, thinking I would sand it off and start over but I didn't want to lose the patina. After looking at it awhile, I decided that I like the smudgy rough old look of it and I'm leaving it alone. Perfection is over-rated.

  3. I love it too. I'm having the same problem with my transfers - smudgy, smudgy. I think I need to tape them down more so the paper doesn't move around when I'm rubbing it. What do you think?

  4. I am finding that the smudging is related to the amount of transfer solvent used. If your image is sliding around though, that's definitely going to make it blur.

I taped the image well on the wood door, but I do believe my brush soaked up too much solvent and I didn't notice. I do a lot of transfers, and they have always turned out fine, with the exception of this one, OF COURSE!

I am actually liking the imperfect look of this, it makes it look as though it's real ageing and wear rather than just recently made if you know what I mean.

Anyway, yes! tape your image down really well!

  7. The smudging gives the image a truly old look that complements the door. Came over from Twigg Studios.

  10. I think it looks great. The smudge makes me think that the door could have been an old lid to the cologne box and that some of the cologne spilled out in shipment, causing it to smudge. I think it makes it look more authentic. Great job!
